Benefits of Laughter (29)
The Benefits of Laughter
by Charmaine Hunte
“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.´ E.E. Cummings
A man very eager to impress his wife on her birthday asked her what she wanted. Her reply was I want to be 6. He thought that was a little odd but he was intent on making this birthday wish happen for his wife even if it was only for a day.
He thought this would be an easy task as all he would need to do is ask his 6 year old daughter what are her favourite things to do.
Now that he had all the information he needed he was ready to give his wife the perfect day.
It started with breakfast in bed (Blueberry pancakes, whipped cream, popped corn and ice cream), then they went to the merry go round and spent the day at an amusement park. To top off the day they had hotdogs and pizza and much more ice cream. With all the activities performed to the exact detail provide by his daughter the man was pleased that he provided his wife perfect birth day.
Unfortunately when they got home his wife looked less than pleased, so he asked “Honey, didn’t you enjoy your day of being 6 again?”
She replied “I meant SIZE 6 !”
I hope that you enjoyed that, I did the 1st time I read it. Getting back to our P.L.A.Y. acronym the focus letter for this week is L – Laughter.
Are you getting enough?
Research shows that children laugh between 10 -12 times per day and adults only 1 – 5, is it any guess who is having more fun and why? Children have the incredible ability to dream and be creative, a quality that I am sometimes envious of. I would love to know who made the rule that adults should not have fun and enjoy their lives. Why does everything need to be so serious?
I am not trying to say that as adults we should laugh everything off because some issues do require our serious attention. However there is something to be said about not sweating the small stuff and to keep or emotions on the lighter side.
I am a fan of Rachel Ray. I love to watch her show because of all the energy and passion she has for what she does. She is constantly laughing on her show, no wonder she is a huge success. Some may find her annoying but what I have come to realize is that you get positive energy back when you send positive energy back. Here is someone who loves to cook and has created such a successful brand. There are many others who love to cook as much as Rachel Ray and maybe even better too, but they allowed themselves to be convinced that they could not make a living as a cook.
Imagine if Rachel Ray believed that, where would she be today? Are you having fun? How many times did you laugh today? No matter what is going on in your life, you can benefit from a little laughter.
