The Power of a PLAN
by Charmaine Hunte
Do you often get caught in the trap of having more Tasks To Do then Tasks Completed at the end of the day? Guess what you’re not alone, that sometimes happens to me too. If I were to review those times in my life, almost every single time it was because I failed to stick to my plan. “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!” an old popular cliché that rings true here. Do you want to save time and be more productive?
Have a plan and stick to it! I know it sounds too simple to be true, but it really is that simple. The only hard part is developing the discipline to stay focused on your plan. Like any other change it is hard at first and gets easier with time. Are you living your priorities? What is most important to you?
- Spend more time with your family
- Lose those last 10 lbs
- Earn more money
Whatever you want to do you CAN, when you create a plan putting your priorities first. As humans we can only focus effectively on one thing at a time. Some will say that they thrive on multi-tasking but over time you become over stimulated, overwhelmed and become less efficient and productive. An effective plan includes the following goals . . .
What do you want to achieve this year? Do you have your 2008 List done? Once you have your priorities, you need to include them in your daily activities by setting goals around them. Having a plan can actually save you time and keep you on track. For example, if your goal is to spend more time with your family then every week you would plan 2 hours of family time where you would do an activity together.
Bikini season is fast approaching and a plan can help you lose those last 10 lbs. If you know that you grab chocolate at 3:00, then plan to take a healthy snack to eat at 3:00 instead of the chocolate. Planning makes it easier to make choices that are in line with our goals.
Could you use some extra money, sure you could. Well start putting a plan in place that will earn you extra $ $ $. Get creative!
There is power in the plan, it can save you time, frustration and create the room to do the things that you enjoy. That’s what creating balance is all about.
