Mess ≠ Balance

Keys to a simpler Life

by Charmaine Hunte

Spring is in the air.  I feel motivated to start fresh so the focus for the month of April Time Management.  In order to have balance in our lives we must be organized.  Take a look at your keychain.  Do you have keys on there that you don’t remember where they belong?  Do you have flyers from last month in your home?  Or telephone books from 2005?

It’s time to purge.

Any clutter in your life is clutter in your mind and strips you of balance.  To create balance right now, clear some clutter.  Look at those keys on your keychain, if you no longer need them get rid of them.  Recycle the old flyers and telephone books.  Now take a look at the rest of your house.  It’s time to get rid of the stuff you and I both know that you will never use again.  One person’s trash is another’s treasure there is a great site to recycle useful items that you no longer need.  Freecyle.org is an online community that recycles people’s useful items to others who need and can use them instead of sending useful things to landfills.  It’s the perfect opportunity to purge, feel good and go green, that’s 3 in one – not bad for multi-tasking.

Tips To Organizing Today

  1. Plan – Having a plan provides you a road map to follow for success
  2. Decide 1 project you can start today – get into action now
  3. Know how much time you spend – sometimes it takes us much longer than we think to get a task done.
  4. Ask for help – no one can do it all alone, get someone to assist you.
  5. Free Time – down time is equally important to creating balance.

Exercise:  For the rest of this week use the Time Sheet in the Free Tools section to track how you really spend your time.  You will be amazed by what you discover.

“The key is in not spending time, but investing it.”  Stephen Covey
